Pornography Addiction
Pornography addiction is not a typical addiction in that it is the "secret" addiction. The addict is usually the only one who knows there is a problem with addictive viewing of pornography. The addict does not want family and friends to know about it. If found out, it could destroy a relationship or career.
It can be discouraging for the addict to try to stop on their own. Usually a pornography addict will go a few weeks without viewing, and suddenly goes back to it as heavily as before, if not more so.
Pornography addiction is becoming much more prevalent, including with teenagers, as access to pornography become easier due to the proliferation of pornographic websites. An addiction doesn't happen overnight. With time and effective counseling, the proper coping skills can be developed, and recovery is possible.
